 Marie Kondo

Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant famous for her KonMari Method. She has written four books on organizing, which have sold millions of copies and have been translated into around a dozen languages.  And now, Marie Kondo has her own TV show on Netflix.  It's called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, and it debuted this month.

The show is an eight-part series in which Marie Kondo brings the life-changing magic of tidying up to people who need help.  Many of them are going through a transition, like the couple whose children have grown up and moved out in Episode 2, "Empty Nesters," or the grieving widow in Episode 4, "Sparking Joy After a Loss."  Marie Kondo helps them decide what to keep and what to get rid of based on whether the item sparks joy or not.

The show has received mostly positive reviews.  Viewers like her kind and gentle approach.  One reviewer, however, complained that the show's before-and-after scenes are far less dramatic than most home-makeover shows. Perhaps he is missing the point and doesn't understand how much joy and peace a tidy house can bring.

In addition to sparking joy and teaching people to tidy up, Marie Kondo's TV series has inspired people to give to charity.  After the show's debut, charity shops in Washington, D.C., and New York reported a huge increase in donations of clothing and other items.
